MPsych (Educational & Developmental), BA (Hons), MSPS, MSRP, SRP Approved Supervisor
Profile
Sue-Lynn has over a decade of experience working with children and their families in the psychology field. She spent over 6 years at KK Women’s and Children’s Department of Child Development (DCD) providing individual therapy to children with developmental, behavioural and/or socio-emotional and/or learning needs. She is well-versed in conducting psycho-educational and diagnostic assessments (e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Dyslexia) for children and adolescents and adults. Sue-Lynn is a neurodiversity-affirming psychologist and through the diagnostic process, hopes to help neurodiverse adults find clarity and understanding of past challenges, uncover their strengths, as well as develop ways to navigate the world in light of their neurodiversity.
Sue-Lynn has also conducted social skills groups and parent training workshops on a range of topics (e.g. behaviour management, school readiness and transition, early communication skills). In addition, she has worked with children, adolescents and young adults in Australia in a variety of settings including a primary school, a clinic and a university counselling centre.
Sue-Lynn obtained her Master in Psychology (Educational and Developmental) from Brisbane, Australia. She is a registered psychologist with the Singapore Psychological Society and an SRP approved supervisor, with experience supervising early career psychologists and special educational needs officers.
Working from a relational-invitational approach, Sue-Lynn believes in partnering with parents in understanding, supporting and advocating for their child/teen. She is warm and compassionate, creating a safe and non-judgemental space for all. Sue-Lynn is also patient in building and establishing the therapeutic alliance with her clients, as she believes it is one of the keys in effecting change. She uses a variety of evidence-based approaches in her therapy, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Circle of Security (COS) and mindfulness approaches. Sue-Lynn is creative in her approach, incorporating the client’s unique interests, preferences and strengths. When working with parents, Sue-Lynn takes on a lifespan/developmental perspective to help them first understand their child/teen and his/her strengths and difficulties. To Sue-Lynn, the most fulfilling thing about being a psychologist is to journey with the client, enabling them to effect changes that would help them meet their goals and ultimately, lead more relational, fulfilling and enriching lives.
As mother to two energetic young boys who love trains and buses, Sue-Lynn often travels around Singapore with them, exploring the various MRT lines and bus routes. She also enjoys engaging in constructive and imaginative play with them. Sue-Lynn enjoys nature walks, listening to calming music on her Spotify playlist.
