Nona Ooi 

Educational Psychologist

Profile

Nona is an Educational Psychologist registered with the Singapore Register of Psychologists. She has garnered a wealth of experience having served in the Ministry of Education (MOE), public hospital, and community settings. Nona has worked with a diverse caseload of children and adolescents with developmental, learning, social-emotional, and mental health conditions, including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, selective mutism, mood and anxiety disorders, developmental delays, and other complex needs.

 

She is well-versed in conducting a wide range of psychological assessments, and excels in translating the assessment knowledge to inform treatment planning. She conducts individual and group therapies, and has particular interests in direct family work and positive parenting interventions. Nona has extensive experience helping both mainstream and Special Education (SPED) schools to support children with special and learning needs, and provided consults for schools and caregivers on learning and behavioural intervention strategies. Nona is also adept at coordinated care with a range of agencies and stakeholders to identify various ways to support the individual.

 

Nona has particular interests in Autism Spectrum Disorders, Early Childhood Assessment and Intervention, positive parenting strategies, as well as developmental, behavioural and social-emotional difficulties in children from disadvantaged social circumstances. She has research interests in caregiver stress, and the quality of life of children with special needs and that of their families. Nona believes strongly in empowering caregivers and teachers in their roles, and strengthening them with skills and psychological resilience in their support and work with their children and adolescents. She also believes in the importance of identifying ways to support individuals through their difficulties and working with the systems surrounding them to promote sustainable change. She provides consultations in both English and Mandarin.

In her free time, Nona enjoys practicing yoga and going for long walks with her dog. She is also an accredited Taekwondo coach and certified Yoga teacher. She hopes to teach children Yoga in the future, and to make mindfulness practice adaptive and relevant to all ages.
